My poem, “Monster: A Cento,” has been accepted for publication in Red Door Magazine in Spring 2026. This poem was written on the day the Oklahoma state legislature passed a law—at the time the most restrictive in the U.S.—banning abortion at conception. A cento is a poem made up of lines from the work of other poems. This one was created from the first lines of poems written by the (relatively few) women in The Vintage Book of Contemporary American Poetry, edited by (a man) J. D. McClatchy. These fourteen lines are by the following poets: Denise Levertov; Mona Van Duyn; Sylvia Plath; Anne Sexton; Adrienne Rich; Elizabeth Bishop; Rita Dove; Louise Glück; Amy Clampitt; Audre Lorde; Gjertrud Schnackenberg; Jorie Graham; Carolyn Kizer; and May Swenson.

Red Door Magazine is a quarterly print and online publication. It was founded in New York in 2009 and is currently based in Copenhagen, Denmark, with correspondents in Australia, Mexico, Colombia, the United States, and various parts of Europe. According to their website, Red Door Magazine “aims to document the work of creators everywhere, from emerging to established poets, authors, visual artists, photographers and visionaries. Our past editions have included work from award-winning artists and renowned authors, and our publications are often created / curated / made in collaboration with / released by international cultural organizers and publishers. Our multicultural international magazine […] has featured creative minds from across the globe.”
