when the peonies pop and the big leaf maple trees that tower over our backyard habitat finally stop dropping their messy millions of flowers. When it heats up just too much to have me wishing for rain so I can be spared the hauling of watering cans to drench the many, many pots of hostas and upright begonias and trailing fuchsias and ferns that congregate on the flagstone patios front and back. When the rain then arrives, oversized plops, and the air is instantly cleansed, immediately refreshed. So that once again, a body can be reminded to deeply breathe, breathe, breathe. To ground oneself in the here, the now, the momentary flush of shadow and sun and green. To, for the moment, forget the self-inflicted troubles that daily swirl around us, that afflict and affect too many more and more. None of this is news; all of this has been long and forever known. Just good to sniff the peony blossoms and be reminded to sit, to take it all in.
