The Apostrophe Blog
How many years have I coveted the many, many Little Free Libraries that dot our corner of literary and literate Portland, Oregon? Well, the Little Free Library folks in Minneapolis, Minnesota had a sale over Memorial Day weekend — free shipping — so I treated myself to their original style library. The library kit and the cedar post were made by Amish woodworkers in Wisconsin.
Dear friend and neighbor, the artist Jenny Joyce, agreed to do her painting magic on three sides of the library. Lo and behold, a new work of art—one I am calling Garden of Books—has been added to our neighborhood as of July 9, 2026. Ours is #225795—they are all over the entire world. Books still matter. Reading still matters. Sharing art and words and community all still matter.
